Following the July 10-11 NASCAR race weekend, Atlanta Motor Speedway broke ground on a project repave the track, to increase banking, and to narrow the racing surface. Banking in the turns will be increased from 24 degrees to 28 degrees. The new widths will be 40 feet in the turns, 52 feet on the front stretch, and 42 feet on the back stretch. Atlanta Motor Speedway was last repaved and reconfigured in 1997.
