Griffin Christian started out strong but faded in the second half as the Crusaders fell to host Central Christian by a score of 48-21 Friday night.
Griffin Christian (0-5, 0-3 conference) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and trailed 18-15 at halftime, but was outscored 30-6 in the second half.
Central Christian, located in Sharpsburg, improved to 3-3 on the season and is 1-0 in conference play.
Senior Jacari Edwards scored two touchdowns and senior Dan Gibbs had one touchdown to lead the Crusaders on offense.
Caleb Lawrence kicked an extra point and TJ Lawrence caught a pass from Gibbs for a successful two-point conversion attempt.
Griffin Christian head coach Mike Freeman said poor field position was a contributing factor in the loss.
“We got pinned really deep a couple of times,” he said. “Field position really hurt us.”
A lack of depth has been a problem all season for Griffin Christian, as many players play both offense and defense.
“In the second half our guys were getting worn down,” Freeman said.
Griffin Christian is scheduled to visit Flint River Academy in Woodbury on Friday.
