• I found it very hard to believe that Nick Saban was named the new head coach at GHS. I checked it out and nothing has been reported on it on any sports or news websites. The GDN sports department needs to check its facts before reporting such an erroneous story. The GDN also contradicted itself because in one story, you reported Saban was the new GHS coach but on the very next page, you state that 30 to 35 have applied for the job.

• I was both amused and disturbed by the comment from the senior citizen complaining about having to pay $15 for a haircut. When I was younger my grandparents worked into their 80s. Nowadays, when people turn 62 they retire and think they are part of some sort of aristocracy. They don’t think they should have to pay for anything, and they think that young people and middle-aged people should support them for the rest of their life. This is not right.

• If the county commissioners want to improve the appearance of Spalding County they need to start by cracking down on littering, which isn’t being done now, and clean up the most-littered county in Georgia. Drive from South Pine Hill to North Pine Hill and you’ll see one of the most littered roads in Georgia, and nothing is being done about it.

• Many people feel sad that Barack Obama did his last State of the Union speech. He spoke to the nation like no other president. Hopefully, when Hillary Clinton gives her speech next January, she will give some of her time to President Obama, so that he can address the nation one more time.

• To all of the nimrods who make comments about global warming: Unless you have a Ph.D. (a Ph.D. is not the same thing as a G.E.D.) in science, no one wants to hear your views on global warming.

• I get tired of seeing Italian, Mexican and Chinese restaurants and other foreign restaurants around here and elsewhere. I will not eat at any of these establishments. These people are in America and they should serve American food.

• The best qualified person should be hired to be the new Griffin Police chief, whether the city decides to promote from within the department or not. It’s stupid to demand the next chief be hired from within the department if someone else is more qualified for the job. That is the typical backward mentality around here.

• I recently heard Bill O’Reilly refer to himself as a “warrior.” If he is such a “warrior,” where was he during the Vietnam War? He was at Marist College. If he had been a warrior, he would have volunteered to join the military and serve in Vietnam. I get tired of people, not just O’Reilly, who refer to themselves as warriors but haven’t served.

• I find it ironic that Donald Trump is starting to play the song “Born in the U.S.A.” On the surface it might seem like a flag-waving, patriotic song, but if you actually listen to the lyrics, it’s a pretty dark and depressing song about a down-and-out Vietnam veteran.

• The article in the paper you wrote on Jan. 13, 2016, “Saban could be headed to GHS,” was about as stupid an anyone could write, especially a sports writer. It made absolutely no sense. As for a new head football coach, second- or third-class is about all that would consider the job. The job just isn’t appealing anymore. Too many morons running the show.

• That Obama, now he wants to take away our cancer. Doesn’t he know that the value of life ends at birth? If we can, in Georgia we will refuse to accept any cancer cure, especially if it is available to poor people and minorities.

• What’s wrong with the people of Flint, Michigan? Their government using good conservative principles reduced their costs by changing water and now the people complain about it not being pure. Only a liberal would be willing to pay more to have clean water.

• We pay the City of Griffin to pick up yard waste. They pay disposable waste (undependable) to pick up yard waste. They may come once a month to pick up the leaves and leave the bushes you have cut. Some have been beside the road since November 2015. Why doesn’t the city of Griffin get wrote up for this? The code people never notice this? It’s not only on Beatty Street —  it’s on every street. What are we paying for?
