Oct. 9, 2021
Mr. Joshua Duane Askew, of Griffin, Georgia, just 37 years old, passed away unexpectedly in a tragic vehicle accident Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021. The family is deeply saddened by his sudden death.
Joshua was born in Pearl, Mississippi on Dec. 30, 1983. He leaves behind his wife Katie and daughter Lainie; mother, Joyce Kirk; grandmother, Juanita “NeNe” Askew; brother, Jonathan; several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Duane Askew.
He graduated from Union Grove High School. He was a foreman for CW Matthews and then worked for Astra Group on the Savannah Port mega rail expansion project. His most important, unofficial job making everyone laugh and smile with his goofy antics and “Go Dawgs!” attitude.
He cherished his wife, Katie, and daughter, Lainie, more than anything in the world and strived daily to be their protector and provider. Josh’s life was a true testament of 1Peter 4:8 “Above all, love one another deeply…” He was always just a phone call away to provide assistance of any kind. His servant’s heart was appreciated and respected by all.
His celebration of life was held on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. and was a testimony how he touched so many, so deeply with the ever powerful, deeply felt words, “Love you!”
