James Brian Dowd, widower of Carol Ann Dowd, died at home on June 28, 2021.

Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Nov. 1, 1940, he was the son of the late John Dowd and Catherine Dowd. Jim received the Holy Sacrament of baptism at St. Joseph’s Roman Cathedral and became a child of God. He was a faithful and very active member of Christ Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Griffin, Georgia, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1960-64. He spent 40 years as a car salesman and was a people person and loved everyone he met. He was a wonderful father and treasured his family. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son Michael Dowd.

He is survived by his sister, Deirdre and husband, Stephen of Yountville, California; his daughter, Stacie Saemann and her husband, Mark of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his son, Roger Dowd of Atlanta, Georgia; loving grandfather of Jennifer and Ashley Saemann of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Sophia Dowd of Atlanta, Georgia.

While going to school, Jim lived with his uncle and aunt Tom and Jean Clarke and had a sibling relationship with all their children. He was dearly loved by the Clarke cousins, they are Anne Clarke Tobin of Boulder, Colorado, Jeannie Clarke of Boulder, Colorado, Tom Clarke of Greenville, South Carolina, Rick Clarke of Hawaii and Tim Clarke of Santa Barbara, California.

When Jim moved to Sun City, he met a lovely friend and companion, Josephine Lambert. Jim and Jo devoted the rest of their lives enjoying life together and taking care of each other. We are very grateful that Jim and Jo had the wonderful company and devotion to each other for so many years. Our family is indebted to Jo for her kindness and care for Jim.

Funeral services for James Brian Dowd will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, from Christ Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joe Warnke officiating. Jim will be buried next to his beloved wife Carol at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, at 1:30 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Christ Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3235 Teamon Road, Griffin, GA 30223.
