THOMASTON — The Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new helipad at Upson Regional Medical Center Thursday, June 16.

About 20 minutes before the ceremony took place, the helipad was in use for an emergency transportation.

Afterward, guests and hospital staff were treated to a catered lunch and entertainment by The Tyler Hammond Band.

“This hospital, this organization, this community and our board constantly look for ways to improve the delivery of the services needed within this area and this helipad is a great example of that,” said URMC chief executive officer Jeff Tarrant, who thanked all who were a part of the development of the helipad.

In addition, Tarrant thanked those at First United Methodist Church, who have offered their front yard for the landing of emergency helicopters for multiple decades.
