One of four men charged in connection to a July murder will have a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
The hearing for Robert Freeman III, 26, of Griffin, is scheduled Tuesday in the Spalding County Courtroom at the Spalding County Jail.
Dennis R. Scheib is listed as his attorney.
Freeman is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault with intent to murder, and armed robbery with a deadly weapon.
On July 24 at about 11:16 p.m., Griffin Police officers responded to Apartment I-37, Walden Pointe Apartments, 701 Carver Road.
When they arrived, they found Jeffery Ryan Deluca in the doorway of the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Deluca was transported to an Atlanta-area hospital where he died at about 4 a.m. Saturday, July 25.
Four men were arrested — Xavier Lamar Carter, 21, of Barnesville; Ryan Matthew Willis, 20, of 110 Scarlett Drive, Jonesboro; Damarion Quandarius Sinkfield, 17, of Griffin; and Freeman. All were charged with murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, according to the GPD.
“Investigators worked non-stop since first being summoned to the location,” a GPD press release stated following the arrests. “Based on leads that were developed by investigators, tips, witness interviews, and the execution of search warrants, it has been determined that the incident was a failed drug transaction.”
Carter’s preliminary hearing was held Oct. 13. Spalding County Chief Magistrate Judge Rita Cavanaugh bound him over to Superior Court on all charges with no bond.
