Pedestrian killed in Saturday night wreck

A 35-year-old Griffin woman was killed Saturday night when she was hit while trying to cross North Expressway.

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, at about 7:17 p.m. Saturday, a 35-year-old Griffin man was traveling south in a 2014 Dodge RAM truck on North Expressway in the left turn lane just north of the McIntosh Road intersection.

Breanne Michele Hewer, 35, of Griffin, was crossing the travel lanes of North Expressway from the west shoulder walking east.

According to the GSP report, Hewer improperly crossed the road.

The driver told GSP he was traveling at about 40 to 45 miles per hour. He said he saw Hewer crossing the road and then she stopped in the middle of the road. The driver told police he could not avoid the collision.

Hewer was transported to Wellstar Spalding Hospital.

Spalding County Deputy Coroner Michael Pryor told WKEU radio station this was the second pedestrian who was killed in as many weeks on North Expressway.
