A Locust Grove man was arrested Wednesday on murder charges in connection with the shooting death of Daniel Ryan Annis in April.

Jason Frederick Zenna, 51, is also charged with aggravated assault.

According to a Spalding County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies responded to the Baptist Camp Road location in reference to a possible armed robbery in progress.

An arrest warrant issued for the defendant stated Zenna reportedly struggled, fought and ultimately fired a shotgun, striking Annis, 27, in the back.

A GBI medical examiner determined tht Annis died as a result of the wounds caused by the gunshot, according to the warrant.

“Mr. Annis at the time he was shot posed no threat to said accused and was actively trying to leave the area,” the warrant stated.

Zenna is being held in the Spalding County Jail.
