A Milner mother and her boyfriend remain in the Lamar County Jail on felony child abuse charges after physicians reportedly found her 2-month-old child suffering numerous fractures and other injuries.
Jessica Miranda Coffey, 30, of Milner, and Phillip Luke Norman, 28, of Barnesville, are charged with cruelty to children in the first degree. Norman was arrested Nov. 9 and Coffey was arrested Nov. 11, according to Lamar County Jail records.
Coffey reportedly brought the infant to the WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital emergency room on Feb. 9 for a swollen right leg. Doctors then contacted the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office after X-rays allegedly showed the infant had at least 19 fractures throughout her body — including to her ribs, arm, leg and ankle, the incident report states.
According to the report, the doctor said Coffey denied any trauma to the infant.
The infant was transported and then admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite, for further evaluation and for a CT scan of her brain.
The case remains under investigation.
