GRIFFIN — City of Griffin Mayor Doug Hollberg appointed City Commissioner Rodney McCord to serve as the mayor pro tem for the 2022 calendar year.

McCord’s appointment was one of several made by city commissioners during their meeting Tuesday night.

Commissioners reappointed Griffin “Trey” Howell III as the city’s Municipal Court judge, Lisa Reeves as the associate Municipal Court judge and Melissa Brock as Municipal Court clerk.

In a letter to city commissioners expressing his desire to continue serving as Municipal Court judge, Howell wrote, “I believe we have an excellent team in the Municipal Court and will provide a court that will be a credit to the City of Griffin.”

In her letter to commissioners, Reeves said she plans to participate in more outreach in the community during 2022.

“I really believe the court’s participation in outreach programs will really assist the community in understanding the court’s role in the legal system,” Reeves said in the letter.

Applicants Thomas Ison Jr. and Virginia Shapard Church was nominated and voted on by commissioners for the city’s Municipal Court Solicitor position. The majority of commissioners selected Ison to fill that role.

A decision on a new assistant court solicitor was tabled until the board’s next meeting.

Kelsey Carden was named the city’s assistant Municipal Court solicitor for code enforcement and nuisance, and Andrew Whalen III was reappointed as the city attorney at Tuesday’s meeting.

Commissioners also approved the appointment of Susan Bartholomew as municipal registrar, executive secretary to the city manager and as assistant secretary to the commission.
