A man who is facing gang, drug, and other charges is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
According to the Spalding County Magistrate Court, Merrick Olan Flakes Jr., 31, has the following felony charges from the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office — Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act-sale marijuana, unlawful for person to commit offense with intent to obtain/earn membership/maintain/increase status, and Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act-criminal activity prohibited. He also has been charged with the misdemeanors of reckless conduct and criminal trespass-unlawful purpose by the SCSO.
According to an SCSO incident report, the charges stem from an investigation began on May 5 in reference to illegal drug activity and possible gang involvement.
Flakes also has the following felony charges from the Griffin Police Department — aggravated battery-disfigure and first degree burglary. He has also been charged by the GPD on the following misdemeanors — 911 obstruction, two counts of criminal trespass, and theft by taking less than $1,500.
Tuesday’s hearing will be in the Spalding County Jail Courtroom. Flakes’ attorney is listed as a public defender.
