Griffin man injured in shooting, suspect arrested

A Griffin man is facing felony aggravated assault and other charges in connection with the shooting of a 38-year-old male victim outside of a Spalding County apartment.

Charlie Parks, 41, is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, violation of a family violence order, and obstruction of officers, according to Spalding County Jail records.

Spalding County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a Northside Drive apartment around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and found the victim lying on the ground and behind a vehicle that was parked in front of the apartment.

The victim had been struck in his lower left leg. Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on scene and assessed his injuries, and the victim was then transported to Grady Hospital in Atlanta, according to a SCSO report.

A witness told deputies Parks was her ex-boyfriend and reportedly identified him as the suspect. The witness then pointed him out to deputies as he was walking across the apartment complex with several other subjects, the report stated.

Deputies recognized Parks’ because they had responded to a disturbance call earlier that evening at the apartment complex and found Parks reportedly beating on someone’s door.

“He was heavily intoxicated then and left the area on foot,” the report stated.

Parks was then detained at the apartment complex. He is being held in the Spalding County Jail.
