A Griffin man is currently being held in the Spalding County Jail on Peeping Tom and other charges following an incident Saturday at the Griffin Walmart.

Montavis Dixon, 25, is also charged with loitering and prowling and unlawful eavesdropping or surveillance. Additional charges may be added.

According to Griffin Police Department Public Information Officer Laurie Littlejohn, GPD officers were dispatched around 5 p.m. Saturday to the store regarding a suspicious person.

When officers arrived at Walmart, several witnesses gave statements regarding a suspicious male in the men’s bathroom reported to be taking photographs of other males over and under the stalls in the bathroom, Littlejohn said.

The witnesses stated they and others waited outside the bathroom to confront the male, but he fled the store after seeing everyone. Store employees captured the male on video surveillance and the vehicle that the male used to leave the area, she added.

Dixon was detained and questioned after officers located him and his vehicle in the area.

Littlejohn said Dixon admitted he had been to Walmart but denied taking photos in the bathroom.

Officers continued to further investigate the report and executed a search warrant of the suspect’s home, finding evidence beneficial to the investigation, Littlejohn said.

“The officers’ dedication and willingness to follow through with this investigation brought this case to a successful conclusion,” she added.

The investigation is ongoing.
