A Griffin man remains in the Spalding County Jail following his arrest on child molestation and public indecency charges.

Austin Elijah Harper, 20, is charged with two counts of public indecency and aggravated child molestation in connection with a Jan. 2 incident in the Walmart parking lot.

According to a Griffin Police Department incident report, two females, ages 18 and 12-years old, stated they were in the Walmart parking lot around 6 p.m. Jan. 2 when a male driving a Dodge Charger pulled up next to them and exposed himself.

The 18-year-old also told police the male followed them as they went to another store and watched them as they walked around the store. She then called a friend to walk them to their car, and the male reportedly followed them in his vehicle as they drove away. The victims were able to lose him as they were driving.

The victims took photos and a brief video to help police identify the suspect. The car’s tag information provided by the victims to the GPD officer reportedly was tied to Harper.

The case was turned over to GPD’s Criminal Investigation Division, and Harper was arrested on the charges Jan. 7.
