Griffin Fire-Rescue chief involved in accident

Griffin Fire-Rescue Chief John Hamilton was hit by a car while riding his bicycle Tuesday morning, according to local officials.

According to an email from Spalding County Manager William Wilson, Hamilton was hit by a car while riding his bicycle and was transported to Atlanta Medical Center. 

Griffin Mayor Doug Hollberg later confirmed the incident but did not have specific information about the incident or Hamilton's condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

Later Tuesday afternoon, Griffin City Manager Kenny Smith said the accident was at about 6 a.m. and that Hamilton suffered from multiple broken bones. Smith also said Hamilton had been scheduled for surgery Tuesday afternoon but had no update on Hamilton's condition.
