Law enforcement officials continue their investigation into a Tuesday morning car fire where a person was found deceased.
According to information released Wednesday afternoon by the Griffin Police Department, officers responded around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a vehicle fire on East Chappell Street.
Once the fire was under control and extinguished by Griffin Fire-Rescue, officers found a deceased male in the vehicle. A joint investigation then ensued, involving the GPD, Spalding County Coroner Michael Pryor and Griffin Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Capt. Michael Thompson.
The male has been identified as Christopher Wiggs, 29, of Griffin, according to the GPD.
The victim has been transported to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy and further examination.
“Investigators are awaiting results, continuing to interview witnesses and are following up on all information received regarding this case,” the GPD reports.
