Griffin’s Board of Commissioners is expected to name Jessica O’Connor as the new city manager at tonight’s board meeting.

Tonight’s board meeting meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at One Griffin Center.

O’Connor currently serves as the city’s deputy city manager. City Manager Kenny Smith announced his retirement in January, which becomes effective March 31.

According to the meeting’s agenda, contract provisions for the new city manager role were negotiated during a closed session of board members on Feb. 9.

If approved, the contract will be effective between April 1, 2021 and Dec. 31, 2022.

A Griffin native, O’Connor came to the city as a staff attorney in 2016. She was then promoted to the chief of staff position. She was named deputy city manager in January.

In October 2020, O’Connor was named to Georgia Trend magazine’s “40 under 40” list.
