A Colorado man is facing felony charges in Monroe County after he reportedly led deputies on a brief pursuit after fleeing from a traffic stop.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated a traffic stop of a motorcycle Monday evening on Interstate 75 after its driver, identified as Robert Fregia, failed to signal while changing lanes and for following too closely.
Fregia, of Aurora, Colorado, reportedly pulled over to the shoulder and came to a brief stop before accelerating and beginning to flee. After a short pursuit, Fregia got off the motorcycle and continued to flee into the tree line, MCSO Public Information Coordinator Anna Lewis said Tuesday evening.
Deputies were able to apprehend Fregia without incident.
Upon Fregia’s arrest, deputies reportedly found drug-related objects, multiple Colorado IDs and driver’s licenses in his possession, Lewis said.
Fregia also has two active warrants from Colorado for failing to appear in court on stolen vehicle and drug charges, Lewis added.
Fregia is charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and multiple traffic offenses. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail as he awaits extradition to Colorado.
