The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday morning in Macon.

According to the BCSO, a female was reportedly shot by a male while inside a van carrying several people from a Macon residence around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

The van attempted to drive the female victim to the Atrium Health Navicent. One of the passengers inside the van contacted the Macon-Bibb 911 Center and reported the van’s location as it was traveling toward the hospital.

The van was located on Gray Highway, just north of the Interstate 16 bridge. Bibb County deputies and paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the female had been fatally wounded, reportedly due to gunfire. No one else was injured during this incident, the BCSO reported.

Additional deputies went to the original scene of the shooting and located a male who was reported to be the possible shooter, according to the BCSO. The male was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division to be interviewed.

A handgun was also reportedly recovered by deputies near the original scene. The passengers that were inside the van were also taken to the Investigations Division to be interviewed.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Additional information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
