SPALDING COUNTY — The suspect wanted in connection with the December 2021 armed robbery of a Spalding County gas station was taken into custody Thursday night in Columbus, according to authorities.

Spalding County Sheriff’s Office investigators, deputies and Columbus authorities took Phillip Pattillo into custody following a brief foot chase, fight and Taser deployment, Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix said Friday.

During a search of Pattillo following his arrest, Dix said deputies found what appeared to be a trafficking amount of methamphetamine and a felony amount of marijuana in his possession.

Pattillo is currently being held in the Muscogee County Jail on new charges, authorities said.

Earlier this week, the SCSO issued arrest warrants for Pattillo in connection with the armed robbery of the Exxon Food Mart on North Expressway, the site of the former Hot Spot Convenience Store.

Dix said a person entered the business around 1:50 a.m. Dec. 27, 2021, brandished a firearm and demanded money from the cashier.

The suspect retrieved about $1,000 in cash, according to the incident report, and then fled on foot with the cash.

Along with the new charges in Muscogee County, Pattillo is also facing Spalding County charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said.
