The Griffin Lady Bears softball team came into Tuesday’s Region 3-AAAA home game against Alcovy on a two-game winning streak, having won two games at the Morgan County Tournament last weekend.

Unfortunately for the Lady Bears, the Alcovy Lady Tigers spoiled the fun, capitalizing off mistakes to defeat Griffin 4-0.

Griffin falls to 4-12 overall, 2-8 in region play while Alcovy improves to 12-10, 5-5.

Runs were at a minimum in this game, as Alcovy held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning. A Griffin throwing error led to two more Alcovy runs in that inning for a 3-0 score.

In the top of the fifth, Morgan Beshears’ solo home run gave Alcovy the 4-0 lead.

Griffin had a chance to dent the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Griffin had runners on first and third with one out, but the Lady Bears ended the inning on a double play.

It was the 9th time Griffin has been shutout this season.

Markeda Crawford, Jahmiya Clemons, Amani Durant, Angel Crawford, Sierra Barlow and Cleopatra Randolph had hits Tuesday for the Lady Bears.

LADY BEARS GO 2-2: Griffin split 4 games in the Morgan Co. Tournament last weekend, losing to Newton Co. 9-0 and to No. 1 ranked Madison Co. 15-0 Friday. Griffin beat Oglethorpe Co. 5-2 and Monroe Area 3-0 on Saturday.
