The Kiwanis Club of Pike County on Saturday will sponsor its first Dine and Dash 5K and Breakfast with proceeds designated to support local youth activities.

According to Ben Maxedon, the Kiwanis Club of Pike has a long-standing history of assisting area youth programs.

“We do various things around the county for our children,” he said, citing school walking trail refurbishment, support of the Boys and Girls Club, youth athletic sponsorships and a Secret Santa program for Pike County foster children as examples of both previous and ongoing projects. “It’s different ways we can assist kids in the community.”

A country breakfast featuring eggs, sausage, grits and biscuits will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Pike County Alternative School, which was formerly the middle school, on U.S. Highway 19 in Zebulon. A $5 donation per person is requested for the meal.

The public is invited to the country breakfast regardless of race participation. Registration and sign-in for the 5K will begin at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start time.

The $20 5K entry fee includes a T-shirt for those who preregister, with some additional T-shirts available for those who register on site.

A 50/50 drawing will also be held following the race. Tickets are $5 each and the winner need not be present to accept the prize.

Tickets may be purchased from any Kiwanis Club member or Saturday, with checks made payable to the Kiwanis Club of Pike County.
