The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will hold an open house on Tuesday concerning the replacement of a bridge over Troublesome Creek.

Alan Gee, who serves as a GDOT design engineer, said the bridge is on Smoak Road four miles southeast of Sunny Side. The existing bridge is structurally deficient, earning a score of 38.81 on a scale of 100. It is also 50 years old.

“Bridges that are over 50 years old are subject to be repaired,” he said.

He said it will take six months to replace the bridge. The detour will begin at the intersection of Smoak Road and McIntosh Road, follow McIntosh Road to Georgia Highway 155, turn left on Highway 155, go to the intersection with Teamon Road, turn left and reconnect with Smoak Road.

The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Spalding County Courthouse Annex on East Solomon Street. There will be no formal presentation. Residents are welcome to come and ask questions.
