Mr. Sterlyn A. Parish, 80, of Williamson, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Parish was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Sumatra, Fla., to the late Harry F. Parish and the late Inez Wynn Parish. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Swatts (Bettie) Parish, who passed away June 28, 2009. He was also preceded in death by a son, John Daniel Parish. Mr. Parish was a member of First Baptist Church. Sterlyn was a retired major with the United States Army, having served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Mr. Parish is survived by grandsons, Bryan and Mikel Parish; sisters-in-laws, Mrs. Jackie Stevens Burleson of Williamson and Mrs. Mary Frances Burns of Salt Lake City, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Sterlyn Parish will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Dr. Bill Hardee and Dr. Bruce Morgan will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville with the Rev. Hambric Brooks officiating. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Magna Sunday School Class, P.O. Box 908, Griffin, GA 30224, in memory of Mr. Parish.
