Mr. Norman R. “Red Fox” Pyle, 73, of Augusta, formerly of Griffin, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Pyle was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Birmingham, Ala., son of the late Robert L. Pyle and the late Mary Ogles Pyle. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Howard College, now known as Sanford University, where he was captain of the football team. He invented and patented “The Hair Towel” in 1994. His greatest accomplishment was being a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His beloved wife of 48 years, Laurice Pyle, preceded him in death.

Mr. Pyle retired from Dundee Mills after 32 years of service as quality control manager. He and his beloved wife were longtime residents of Orchard Hill. Mr. Pyle also enjoyed seeing all of his neighbors and having them stop by and visit. Mr. and Mrs. Pyle enjoyed spending time with their family and grandchildren and all of their dogs through the years. Mr. Pyle was known for his great personality and humor and everyone enjoyed his company.

Survivors include his daughters, Beverly Pyle of Augusta, Livia Pyle Tonan of Griffin and Karen Pyle Love of Griffin; grandchildren, Sarah Morgan Tonan, Caroline, Hunter and David Love; brother and sister-in-law, G.E. “Jabo” and Juanita Pyle of Birmingham, Ala.; sister, Mary Jo Marlow; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Norman R. Pyle will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010, in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the funeral home and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. when a brief time will be allotted for family and friends to share remembrances before adjourning to the cemetery.
