SAVANNAH — Rising Spalding High senior Davin White finished the annual Georgia Amateur Championship 59th out of 74 golfers on Sunday at The Landings Club, Deer Creek Course.
White shot a 76-74-75-81—306 to finish 23 shots off the pace set by rising University of Alabama sophomore Lee Knox of Augusta (72-70-72-69—283).
After an hour and 19-minute delay from 2:51-4:10 p.m., due to lightning, Knox — who was in the next-to-last group on the 18th fairway ready to hit his approach shot — hit his approach shot to 25 feet from the pin and two-putted for a one-stroke win over Augusta’s Chase Parker who was already in the clubhouse.
Knox was playing in a group that included his dad, Jeff, who shot a 72-70-74-77—293 to finish tied for 11th.
White opened the four-day tournament by shooting a 76 on the 7,094-yard, par 72 course to sit 57th out of 156 golfers. He enjoyed his best day on Friday, carding a 74 to move up to 48th place and easily make the cut — which reduced the field to the low 70 plus ties.
Saturday White added a 75 to move up to 40th, but an 81 on Sunday relegated him to 59th in the final standings of the 89 annual state amateur championship.
