Trey Mallett scattered five hits and struck out eight in a complete-game effort to lead Spalding County past Senoia 12-5 Friday night in the Little League District 4 Senior League championship game at Wyomia Tyus Park in Griffin. Mallett, who carried a one-hitter into the sixth inning, collected his second win of the tournament.

Brannon Cape highlighted a five-run fifth with a two-run triple to help his team take a 10-1 lead. DeAndre Holmes singled three times, Parker Powell singled twice, and Mallett, Jess DeVoursney, Delvin Jordan and Zack Weathington each singled once to further Spalding’s cause.

By winning, Spalding joined 10/11 Spalding American — which won the title a night earlier 2-1 against Peachtree City National — as District 4 baseball champion. The Junior League Spalding County softball team also won a District 4 title 11-2 Thursday against Peachtree City in Griffin at Volunteer Park.

CODY DOUGLAS was the pitcher for most of this game, and he did a great job. Trey was the relief pitcher late.
