Griffin Police Department (GPD) responded to a shooting Tuesday at 5:57 p.m. at 417 N. 18th St., Apt. C.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the dead body of 19-year old Byleem Moore, of Griffin, who had been shot with a gun, according to police. GPD investigators learned that the incident was possibly drug-related and developed two suspects. Warrants were obtained for Chesry Ramond Mathis, 20, of Griffin, and Jarmond Curry, 20, of Griffin.

Investigators learned that Mathis had fled the Griffin area and went to Sylvester, Ga., about 140 miles south of Griffin. They traveled to Sylvester in pre-dawn hours and, with the assistance of the Sylvester Police Department, the Ashburn Police Department and the Turner County Sheriff’s Office, found Mathis and arrested him without incident.

Authorities brought Mathis back to Griffin and booked him into the Spalding County Jail on charges of malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Curry, the second suspect, is thought to still be in the Griffin area and is actively sought by local law enforcement. He has active warrants for malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Anyone with information on the location of Curry should call their local law enforcement agency or GPD Sgt. Richard Phillips at 770-229-6452, ext. 538.
