SPORTS BRIEFS: Spalding baseball team wins pair on road trip

Casey Moody’s 6-for-7 performance helped the No. 6-state ranked Spalding High baseball team sweep a weekend road trip to Washington County, the Jags taking down the host team 7-1 Friday night and Vidalia 10-7 Saturday.

Moody ended the weekend with three doubles, a pair of singles, a home run and eight RBIs.

Moody, Dylan Griffin and Pat Gasses each homered Saturday to lead Spalding at the plate. Josh Goss started and worked four complete for the win.

Friday night Griffin stared and worked four for the win, fanning eight and allowing one run.

SHS is at home for three games this week, hosting Locust Grove Monday, Jackson Wednesday and South Atlanta Friday in Region 4-AAA action. First pitch scheduled for 6 p.m., each night.

SHS BOYS SOCCER: FORSYTH, Ga. — Braxton Stevens, assisted by Jake Thaxton, scored the Spalding High boys soccer team’s only goal in a 3-1 loss Friday night against Pike county in the opening round of the Bulldog Cup hosted by Mary Persons High School.

Pike was up 1-0 at the half and 2-0 before Steven scored in the 79th minute of the match.

GRIFFIN BOYS SOCCER: The Griffin High boys soccer team tied Jackson 1- all in a home match Thursday night.

Jackson notched its lone goal in the first half, while Jorge Hernandez scored his third of the season with 29:00 to play in the second half as Griffin (2-0-2) remained undefeated on the season.
