Members of the Spalding County 4-H Mounted Drill Team who recently competed in the Sunshine State Mounted Drill Team Association competition at the Florida State Fair in cluded, from left, Mollie Biles, Morgan Riviere, Anna Sizemore, Gayla Sizemore, Annalysa Vaughn, Reese McIver, Hannah Hill and Charidy Williams, with Coach Sport Hulon kneeling.
Sixteen members, horses, parents, their coach and leaders traveled through miserable weather and endured unusually cold Florida temperatures to participate.
Neither the weather nor delays could dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of these youth nor stop them from their mission.
The results reflect the talent and ability of these young riders and their coach.
The varsity team took first place in each class they entered. The eight-member team won the Youth and Open classes. The Open class included several adult teams.
The varsity team divided into two four-member teams to compete in the Quad class, and took first and second place. Only three points separated the two teams.
The junior varsity team, in only their second competition ever, earned third place in the Maiden class and fourth place in Youth class.
Varsity team members include Cheyenne Ballew, Colter Chasteen, Ashlyn Coffey, Mary Kate Coffey, Taylor Long, Sidney Moore, Carly Nash and Ali Schortinghouse.
Junior varsity team members include Mollie Biles, Hannah Hill, Reece McIver, Morgan Riviere, Anna Sizemore, Gayla Sizemore, Annalysa Vaughn and Charidy Williams.
The teams are coached by Sport Hulon.
Both teams will be in competition March 20 in Unadilla. The teams invite and encourage our community to attend.
