— I did not agree with everything Rev. Pat Robertson recently said about Haiti, but the media that tried to crucify him were wrong. I ask everyone to do a word search for the word “voodoo” and check its history and current states in Haiti, and you will see that part of the reverend’s statements had merit.

— The sheriff should assign an officer to Futral Road near the elementary school from 2:45 until 3:15 p.m. on school days. This area is very congested with folks picking up the children. I have witnessed near-misses between vehicles and some low-level road rage that could get out of hand. The officer’s presence may prevent a bad situation and could raise some much-needed revenue for the county from traffic citations.

CommonSenseSays: If one did not want to exhibit the aura of Local Politics of the Good Ole Boy Network at it's best, a certain Pike County Commissioner would not introduce business at a Special Called Session to dispose of an already embarassing situation with a self serving issue that could only benefit that particular Commissioner and then second the motion to approve that business. If that isn't the type of behavior that has kept the county from really benefitting from the leadership of it's Board of Commissioners, I'll kiss it where the Sun don't shine. The Sheriff's office is just trying to enforce the local "No Truck" ordinance to try to reduce the reasons that the Commissioner's trucks are called into service in the first place. You're telling me that a $50.00 citation to the Trucking Commissioner cost more than the damage it and others cause to the road surfaces? That the cost of sending the trucks and personnel out to patch the same Pothole 10 times a year is cheaper than the citation? I have many years experience with this type of an Operation and as a Citizen concerned about the lack of available funds to maintain our roads in a decent manner, I'd much rather see the penalty to the Trucking Company than the cost of the repair. This was a blatent conflict of interest on behalf of one of the most controversial Commissioners ever to hold office in Pike County. Unless the Citizens also have the courage to speak out against the corruption by Elected Leaders in any County and here on the local level then you can also sit back and allow the highest offices in the land to run rampant over it's people. God help us if we sit back and do nothing.
