In a special called meeting today, the Spalding County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted for Spalding County Chief Appraiser Tim Whalen to serve as interim county manager. The board also voted for Virginia Martin, the former Griffin assistant to the city manager, to be the assistant to the interim county manager.
Whalen will continue his position as chief appraiser and serve as interim county manager until a new county manager is hired. Commissioner Eddie Freeman said a new county manager will hopefully be in place within 30 to 90 days.
