Spalding County Executive Secretary Teresa Watson has accepted the position of Pike County clerk.
The Pike County Board of Commissioners announced at its Nov. 24 meeting that a unanimous decision had been reached to offer the position to Watson.
“I do think it will be a good move,” Watson said.
She will begin serving in that capacity Jan. 4.
“I think he (Pike County Manager Steve Marro) would have liked for me to come sooner, but I’m trying to tie up loose ends here before I go. I need that extra time to finish things up here before I go.”
Watson, who has been employed by Spalding County for five years, said it has been her pleasure to serve residents and officials.
“I’m very appreciative of the opportunities I’ve had here. I’ve had the greatest boss in the world. It’s been a joy to come to work,” she said. “I still live here and I’m still concerned with what happens in Spalding County. I’ll still be very involved, but as a citizen. Having said that, I’m very excited about this opportunity.”
Watson said that while she currently lives in Spalding County, she has deep roots in Pike County as well.
“Pike County still feels like home to me. My mom still has a farm there and my brother lives there,” she said.
