After visiting the Griffin-Spalding County Schools last week, a consultant with the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC) declared his plans to recommend all schools in the system be “accredited with quality,” according to Cynthia Anderson, the district’s middle school curriculum director.
“Accreditation means you meet certain standards of quality in your school system,” Anderson said, as she informed the Griffin-Spalding County Board of Education of the issue at its regular meeting Tuesday.
The GAC consultant performed a thorough on-site review of each school in the district, including an inspection of all facilities.
After going over documentation for each school, he evaluated whether the schools meet GAC standards in organization, personnel, program of studies, school plant, finances and summer school. In each category, a school must meet a minimum number of standards to be accredited.
The mission of GAC, an independent agency governed by an elected board of educators, is to establish standards promoting high-quality instruction for Georgia children and to encourage schools to meet established standards.
Anderson pointed out that, as one next step, the school district will align all six standard areas to better ensure that all students receive a quality education.
