The University of Georgia-Griffin campus will have its second annual tailgate party on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 100 Flat Creek Road, as the UGA football team takes on the Vanderbilt Commodores at 12:21 p.m. that day.

Part of the tailgate party, which drew a large crowd last year, is the UGA Tailgate Toss, for which the UGA-Griffin campus is partnering with the Exchange Club of Griffin. The tailgate toss is based on a popular game also known as soft horseshoes.

Team registration for the tailgate toss begins at 10:30 on the morning of UGA’s football game, which will be shown on a large screen at the university’s Griffin campus. The actual tailgate toss tournament will start one hour before the UGA-Vanderbilt match-up. Playoffs will be played at halftime.

The family-friendly event is open to the public, said Chuck Brasfeild, Scout executive for the Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

“Anybody can play, any age, any skill level,” he said. “It’s all about fun.”

Brasfeild said he expects to see 40 teams competing. The winning team will receive a $1,000 grand prize. Teams coming in second and third will be given a free set of custom-made tailgate toss boards, he said.

All those interested in participating at the tailgate toss should visit www.griffinexchangeclub.com/register. The entry fee is $100 per team of two players. All proceeds of the tailgate toss go to youth charities in Griffin-Spalding County.
