The Griffin Bears baseball team’s game at Forest Park was rained out Monday and hasn’t been rescheduled as of yet.

The Bears have missed games against Region 4-AAAA foes North Clayton (3/31) and Dutchtown (4/3) and non-region opponents Union Grove and Fayette County due to all the rainouts.

Bears head baseball coach Jamie Cassady said he hopes to make up one of the missed games Thursday, April 16.

As of Tuesday, he was working on trying to get one of the teams to commit to playing on that date.

Griffin has been on a roll lately, winning five straight Region 4-AAAA games to tie the Ola Mustangs for first place.

The Bears (8-7 overall, 7-1 region) have reminded their region foes that they are indeed the 2008 state runners-up in Class AAAA, outscoring the five region foes 62-4 over a two-week period. Griffin recorded three shutout victories in the streak, blanking Stockbridge (16-0), Alcovy (12-0) and Ola (8-0). They seem to be finding a groove on the pitcher’s mound during this streak, including a stellar effort from Bears junior Jacoby Beckham in the 8-0 win over Ola on April 8. It was Beckham’s first-ever varsity start.

“I certainly hope it wasn’t a case of beginner’s luck for Jacoby,” joked Cassady.

After a road game against North Clayton on Friday, the Bears will host three of their next four games in the friendly confines of The Bears’ Den.

They host Stockbridge on Monday, April 20, host Jonesboro on April 22, hit the road to face Dutchtown on April 24 and host Alcovy on April 28. All these games will start at 5:55 p.m. and the dates may change depending on the weather.
