Although the weather threatened showers all morning, Griffin High School JROTC cadets were undaunted during their 2009 Annual Federal Inspection (AFI).

“Overall, the kids performed exceptionally well, in spite of the weather, said Lt. Col. Jeffe Pugh. “We are very, very pleased with their efforts.”

The cadets achieved a score of 98.9 percent, down slightly from last year’s score of 99 percent.

“When you look at the big scheme of things, a 98.9 is pretty close to perfection,” Pugh said.

The Griffin High JROTC program is huge ” 253 cadets.

“We have a large, strong program here that is supported by our administrators and community,” Pugh said.

Among the items included in the AFI were cadet staff briefings; individual staff inspections; a test of the cadets’ curriculum knowledge; and in-ranks inspections where graders look at each cadet’s physical appearance and ask them general ROTC information. Among those attending the inspection’s highly anticipated pass and review was state Rep. John Yates, R-Griffin. Spalding High School’s AFI was held Thursday and the cadets scored 99.667 percent.
