Officials with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday arrested a suspect in a residential burglary which occurred Monday.
“Investigators have been working on three different burglaries that have been reported here. Two of them occurred last week with an additional one (Monday),” said Pike County Sheriff Jimmy Thomas. “For one of those burglaries, we have charged Jackie Martin, age 31.”
Martin is a Jackson resident.
The arrest was made Tuesday as investigators were checking out leads in one of the cases.
“Investigators received valuable leads from a neighbor of one of the victims. Oddly enough, we were following up on some addresses in Griffin and Spalding County. We had a vehicle description and one of our investigators was on his way back into Pike County and observed the vehicle,” Thomas said. “He turned around and conducted a traffic stop and the suspect was arrested at Carver Road and (Georgia Highway) 362 in Griffin.”
Although Martin has been charged in connection to only one of the three recent burglaries, Thomas said the PCSO is investigating whether Martin may have been involved in other robberies.
“Martin has a prior record which includes a conviction for burglary. He has been charged with one of these burglaries at this time. The other burglaries actually have the same MO (modus operandi) ” the residences’ doors were kicked in and items were stolen,” he said. “He is being investigated for possible involvement in those.”
Thomas said evidence has been recovered through the course of the investigation.
“There were stolen items recovered, but I’m not at liberty just yet to say what the items were or where they were recovered,” he said.
Martin is being held in the Pike County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
