The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Victim Service Unit (VSU) is preparing to host its second annual Benefit Golf Tournament.

This year’s event will be held Wednesday, March 25, at Hickory Hill Golf Course, at 209 Biles Road, Jackson.

The competition will involve four-man teams competing for prizes which will be awarded for first, second and third places. Additional prizes will be awarded to those with the longest drive, the individual who comes closest to the pin and the winner of a putting contest. The day’s events will also include a raffle.

The tournament kicks off with lunch at noon, which is included in the cost of registration, and a 1 p.m. tee time.

The deadline to register for the fund-raiser is March 16 and the entry fee is $200 per four-man team.

For those who wish to provide additional support to the VSU, hole sponsorships are also available for $100.

The VSU was created to provide assistance to victims of crime in Spalding County. The help provided by the VSU is given free of charge, making community support of this annual golf tournament even more important.

“Our goal is to serve as a liason between crime victims and the wonderful resources that are available to them in Spalding County,” VSU Director April Freeman said.

Freeman went on to say that the VSU also provides assistance directly to individuals affected by crime, citing such incidents as domestic violence and sexual assault.

“For example, in these circumstances, the money we raise may be used for counseling and shelter for the victims,” she said. “We also participate in community events, providing educational materials in an effort to prevent future crime from occurring.”

For those who wish to participate in the VSU Benefit Golf Tournament, payment may be made by check to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Victim Service Unit, 881 Memorial Drive, Griffin, GA 30223. For additional information, contact Freeman at 678-858-0366.
