Mr. Lumpkin was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard T. Lumpkin and was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Leigh Lumpkin. David was a graduate of Wheeler High School in Marietta where he played football and was on the wrestling team for the Wheeler Wildcats. He was a professional driver with Werner Enterprises. David was both a cook and chef and enjoyed cooking for his family. He traveled with his family in Austria, Germany, Italy, Israel and Jordan.
He is survived by his family, Richard and Jackie Lumpkin, Tracey and Hunter Hall and David Murphy. Special mention is given to “Sam,” his traveling companion who traveled with him in 48 states.
Services for Mr. David Lumpkin will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1681 Dames Ferry Road, Forsyth, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1707 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311, or a charity of your choice.
