Officials with the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office responded to this location following reports made to Spalding County 911 regarding the shooting.
Upon their arrival, deputies found the victim seriously injured, having sustained a gunshot wound to the neck.
Spalding Regional EMS was notified and initially transported the victim to the emergency room of Spalding Regional Medical Center. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, however, the victim was later flown to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment.
According to witness statements provided to investigators with the SCSO Criminal Investigation Division, the dispute began when John Holcomb, of 1375 Patton Road, the suspect in the shooting, attempted to leave the Moose Club while allegedly intoxicated.
After the shots were fired, witnesses said they took the gun from Holcomb and later turned it over to deputies.
In a press release issued by the SCSO, Sheriff Dee Stewart said, “The victim is still listed in critical condition and we are awaiting news from the doctors today on his condition.”
Holcomb is being held in the Spalding County Jail, having been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and discharge of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
However, Stewart said, “Investigators are still interviewing witnesses in this matter and more charges against Holcomb could be made.”
