Team Georgia finished in third place, earning a bronze medal at the 2008 Junior Olympic Three Position Air Rifle National Championship Saturday in Anniston, Ala.

The team finished 15 points behind first place and a slim five points out of silver to claim their bronze medals by combining a two day score of 4,646 of the possible 4,800.

With sponsorship from Georgia Sport Shooting Association and Georgia Competitive Shooters Inc., the Team Georgia team members included: April Dunn of Newnan, Matthew Branyon of McDonough, Adam Thrasher of Locust Grove, Jacob Brown of McDonough and Jake Neri of McDonough.

Team members were joined by Individually Qualifying Members of the Spalding County 4-H team Morgan Kelly of Griffin and Kyle Whisenant of McDonough. Individuals Qualifiers had to post scores of 580 or better in the qualification round to receive individual invitations.

All members of the Spalding County 4-H Shooting Sports Program practice regularly at The Ole Mill Range Complex in Griffin.

The match consisted of 40 record shots — 20 shots each over two separate days of competition — in each of the prone, standing, and kneeling events each day with the aggregate score representing the total points of the two-day competition.

In addition to these record shots, the top-8 athletes participated in an Olympic style Finals Match in which Dunn qualified to participate.
