Officers with the Griffin Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on Monday night conducted a consent search and executed a separate search warrant in reference to thefts which had occurred at 833 E. Tinsley St.
As a result, authorities say stolen property was recovered and three people were arrested.
“A consent search is essentially when a citizen allows something in their control to be searched without a search warrant,” said Cpl. Bryan Clanton, GPD spokesman.
Such was the case in the consent search which was conducted at 732 E. Chappell St.
Authorities say 18-year-old Shannon Smith was arrested when copper plumbing, tools, televisions, a VCR and VHS tapes, and a quantity of marijuana and a Hi-Point .380 handgun were recovered at that residence.
Smith was charged with burglary and theft by receiving stolen property, the latter in connection with the recovered copper.
The second search warrant was executed at 116 Blanton Ave., where a quantity of marijuana and a second Hi-Point .380 handgun were seized.
Abdullah Loving, 25, was arrested at that residence and charged with burglary and possession of marijuana.
Yolanda Moore, who police say is Loving’s 33-year-old girlfriend, also was arrested at that time.
She was charged with possession of marijuana and reckless conduct after police allegedly discovered her smoking marijuana in the presence of her 2-year-old child.
“These arrests concluded an investigation headed up by Corporal John Hayes into an earlier burglary that had occurred between June 18 and June 22 at 833 E. Tinsley St., and involved the theft of copper and several other items,” Clanton said.
All three suspects are being held at the Spalding County Jail.
“I encourage my investigators to be aggressive in clearing cases such as this one,” said Maj. Terry Brock, who heads the CID. “As always, Corporal Hayes and my other investigators displayed the tenacity needed to follow through to an arrest.”
