Pike candidate forum to be held Tuesday

ZEBULON - Pike County residents will get an up close and personal look at the people running for office in the county at a political forum Tuesday sponsored by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and the Farm Bureau of Pike County.

The 6 p.m. forum will focus exclusively on the county’s district attorney, commission chairman, District 3 commissioner, District 4 commissioner, sheriff and chief magistrate judge races. Candidates in unopposed elections will not be included.

Republican district attorney candidates are incumbent Scott Ballard and Rudjard Hayes; Republican commission chairman candidates are incumbent Steve Fry, Doug Mangham and Tommy Burnsed; Republican District 3 commissioner candidates are incumbent Tommy Powers and Margie Trammell; Republican District 4 commissioner candidates are incumbent Jake Garner, Danny Hubbard, Brent Taylor, Don Collins and Wayne Banks; Republican sheriff candidates are incumbent Jimmy Thomas, William Novin Darsey Jr. and Albert Busbee; Democratic sheriff candidates are Ulysses “Tony” Clark and Charles Penley; and Republican chief magistrate judge candidates are incumbent Priscilla Killingsworth and Steve Burge.

The forum will be held in the Pike County School System auditorium and the format will include an opportunity for each candidate to make a brief opening statement followed by a moderator asking predetermined questions.

A second forum will be held in the fall prior to the general election.
