Spalding High senior pitcher Josh Tapley was selected to play on the Southwest Squad in a Georgia Dugout Club Tournament this weekend.
Spalding head coach Mickey Moody will coach a squad for the third year in a row in the tournament which is being played at Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Ga.
Tapley (4-1 with a 1.50 ERA in subregion play), who is headed to Perimeter Junior College in Atlanta next season, was named to the All-Region 4-AAA North team this season where he was also selected subregion Pitcher of the Year.

LOCAL PRO ON A ROLL: ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. - Griffin City Golf Course head pro Charlie King qualified for the Yamaha Atlanta Open on May 29 by shooting a four-over-par 41-35-76 at the Barnsley Gardens Resort.
The score placed him in a two-way tie for eighth, six shots off the lead (35-35-70) set by Bill Murchison of Towne Lake Hills.
Thirty six golfer, in all, competed in the event. However, only the top 15 advanced to the Yamaha Atlanta Open which will be held Monday through Tuesday at Newnan Country Club.

GLCA HANDICAP TOURNEY: Anne Barker won the Griffin Ladies Golf Association’s annual Handicap Tournament May 21-22 at the Griffin City Golf Course. Faye Colwell placed second and Pat Baker placed third in the championship flight.
Pat Brown, Penny Penley and Carol Head placed first through third, respectively, in the First Flight, while Carol LaCroix, Mary Jane Snowdall and Jean Lanier placed first through third, respectively, in he Second Flight.
Barbara McIver, Barbara Perkins and Suzanne Campbell also competed. Congratulations goes out to Pat Baker for a hole-in-one at the Griffin Country Club on a previous outing.

SOCCER PLAYER HONORED: Griffin Christian High School’s Tatum Daniel was recently named to the GISA All-Region 4-AA team in girls soccer.
The forward was a junior this season for Griffin Christian which competes in the Georgia Independent Schools Association.
