It was all pomp and circumstance during the pass and review ceremony when Spalding and Griffin high schools’ Junior ROTC programs underwent annual inspections Thursday and Friday, respectively.

This year cadets were inspected by personnel from North Georgia College in areas that included uniforms, curriculum and team marches.

According to Sgt. 1st Class Ronald Polk, of Griffin High School, the cadets did a fantastic job.

“We just had a couple of weeks to practice,” Polk said immediately following Friday morning’s ceremony. “We’ve been bringing them out here during the class periods. All of them looked really outstanding. As you can see, some of the cadets have a gold star. This is to maintain that gold star. It’s the highest award they can get. And I will be thoroughly surprised if they don’t get it again.”

But there was no surprise in store for Griffin High. It scored 99 percent.

Spalding High was in the same boat.

Sgt. Maj. Frankie Gunter, of Spalding High, said his cadets scored 98.2 percent.

“We are very proud of them. We believe this is the best we’ve ever looked,” Gunter said Monday afternoon. “This is definitely the best corps we’ve ever had.”
