JONESBORO — Xavier Randolph drove in four runs and Jeremy Holcomb tossed a two-hit shutout as the Griffin High Bears remained atop the Region 4-AAAA North standings with a 12-0 win Monday in five innings at Mt. Zion-Jonesboro.
The left-handed throwing sophomore was unflappable, yielding only two hits — one of them being a bunt single — while striking out eight and walking one as the Bears (13-3 overall, 7-0 subregion) ran their season-best win streak to six games.
In the process, Griffin swept the season series between the two schools by a combined margin of 28-1 and Holcomb ran his record to x-x. The loss was the fourth in a row for Mt. Zion-Jonesboro (4-11, 1-6).
Griffin’s offense, led by Randolph’s home run and two doubles, was firing on all cylinders as everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit and one RBI except for one player.
Henteves Jester had a pair of singles to provide the Bears with another multi-hit effort.
Griffin continues its season this week with games 6 p.m., today at home against Riverdale and 5:30 p.m., Friday at North Clayton. Both are subregion affairs.
The Bears topped Riverdale 8-1 on the road March 31 and North Clayton 6-1 April 2 at The Bear’s Den.
