Investigators with the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office have made an arrest in the Oct. 8 armed robbery of Cole’s Corner, located on Ga. Highway 16 in Brooks.
“Units of the patrol division were dispatched to Cole’s Corner, around 9 p.m. Oct. 8,” said Capt. Tony Ranieri, chief investigator for the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. “Officers arrived at this location and learned the store clerk had reported that a lone masked bandit had entered the store and robbed him at gunpoint.”
Ranieri said the armed robbery resulted in the theft of an undisclosed amount of money.
The ensuing investigation led to the Oct. 23 arrest of William Vessel, of Stockbridge.
“With information obtained during the investigation, Vessel was arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery,” Ranieri said.
The investigation in this case is ongoing, as Vessel has been cooperating with Sheriff’s Office officials.
“More arrests are forthcoming in this case, as we have been provided with information that other individuals were involved in this robbery,” Ranieri said.
The number of robberies has increased recently, Ranieri said.
“It’s that time of year -- when it starts getting close to the holiday season. All the thefts, armed robberies and burglaries start to pick up,” Ranieri said. “But we do what we can to prevent them with extra patrols in the neighborhoods during the days and at the businesses at night.”
