Spalding High’s cross country teams finished second and third respectively on Saturday at Bleckley County in Cochran, Ga..

The Lady Jags finished in first place in Class AAA Division and third overall out of 30 other schools.

“What a great run my girls team had Saturday,” said SHS coach Dolores Owen. “ I was so proud of them.”

Jenna Wesley had a 20:44 and finished 8th out of 240 runners, while Sarah Adams had a 21:19 and finished 15th, Antionette “Bones” Jordan had a 23:11 in 40th, Meg Ward a 23:12 in 41st, Lauren Cook had a 23:22 in 42nd, Corinne Milling had a 23:55, Bethany Nelms a 24:25 and Caroline Dallas a 25:00.

The boys team placed second out of 30 teams in the Class AAA Division and third overall.

SHS’s Will Ficklen led the way finished second in a time of 17:00. Teammate Bryan Cronan finished 23rd in 18:21, while Cole Wilson finished 34th in 18:43, Jared Brittain placed 37th in 18:45 and Davin White finished 43rd in 18:58.

The Jaguars’ William Ward (19:01), Marlon Heggie (19:26) and Matt Himel (19:39) also competed. 

Spalding’s next meet is this Saturday at The Last Chance in Carrollton. It’s the same course the state meet will be held on Nov. 10

“It should give us some insight into what we have left to do to prepare ourselves for the region and state meet,” said Owen, whose team will host the region meet 1:30 p.m., Nov. 1 at SHS.

Owne and the teams are looking forward to region.

“It should be an exciting meet,” said Owen. “I am proud of how each of my kids are working hard each day to achieve their individual goals.”
